We spent the last half of the summer moving to a new home. Same city but a new area in it. With three kids, five and under. I thought I had adequately prepared myself for how hard it would be. I was pretty sure that I was set with the proper low expectations. BUT I was wrong.
I had no idea how challenging it would be.
On the one hand, it was nice to do during the summer so that we didn’t interrupt the typical schedule of the school year, but on the other hand, it was brutal. I was never alone and had very little time to unpack. While we are still very much in the settling in process, we have come a long way.
Today I want to share the list I compiled of all of the places you need to notify of your address change. As if the actual move and the unpacking weren’t enough, this part of the process can be very challenging. It’s helpful to have a list of everyone you need to contact and just knock it out bit by bit over the course of a week. Then you will avoid your credit card getting declined because of the wrong billing address. Or having your realtor text you every couple of weeks saying you got ANOTHER package delivered to your old house. Not that I’m speaking from experience or anything.
Some of these are more important than others, obviously. You need to change your address with the DMV quickly, while there are some other things that can wait. Things such as magazines won’t forward and you’re just wasting money by not changing your address. However, changing your address for receiving catalogs is not of great importance.
