My 17 month old is on the go constantly. I like to plan fun activities for us to do together but sometimes feel limited as far as “crafting” because of his age. He has a pretty short attention span unless we are getting messy…then he all of a sudden becomes very interested in the activity! His daycare teacher actually did this with the whole class for all of the moms for Mother’s Day {bless her for all of that patience!}. I thought it was such a cute idea that I wanted to share it with you!
It definitely took a bit of patience. The good thing about the paint I used is that it wiped off even when dry so we were able to redo some of the fingerprints. I would definitely recommend heading outside to do this and have plenty of old rags or paper towels handy! Also, if you are wondering why the flower in the picture doesn’t have any blooms…that is because I accidentally left the plant wrapped in a WalMart sack in my basement for two weeks before I finally remembered I had bought it. Amazingly, I am happy to report that it is actually blooming now! Those Impatiens are some resilient little suckers!
Supplies:
Red paint
Black Sharpie
Flower pot (I bought this yellow one at a local Ace Hardware)
Potting soil
Flower of your choice
Jake loved sticking his finger in the paint. It was a bit difficult to control where he stuck it so I guided him quite a bit! I think the little “unique” markings make it even more special. This paint dried really quickly and then I just used a Sharpie to transform the fingerprints into ladybugs. Jake of course loved the dirt and I think we may have spilled more than we got into the pot…
We planted an already-sprouted flower but it would also be neat to plant just the seeds and be able to watch a flower grow! The other great thing about this craft is that the kids can help plant and water the flower and they get to watch it grow and bloom!
