Organizing My Life

7

It’s a New Year, and I’m itching to get my life in order!  With the chaos of the holidays and the end of a tiring year behind us, I’m finding new energy and motivation to get organized.  Pretty much every area of my life felt unorganized and out of control as 2013 was winding down, and it stressed me out.  So I made a goal for myself —  to get myself and my family more organized in 2014.

Organizing

Last week my friend and I were talking about how we were going to keep each other accountable in exercising and how we were going to get organized.  She wrapped up the conversation with a hashtag — #healthyandorganized2014  — and I loved it.  So as the New Year is settling in, that is what is on my mind – getting healthy and organized in 2014.

It’s a daunting task, so as I’ve been thinking about it I realized that I needed to break it into manageable steps.  I like lists and check marks, so I came up with a list to organize my life.  This is what I need to help me accomplish my goals.  I broke it into different areas that need organization —  our home, our cars, the budget, the bill paying, the blogging, the work, the family/life balance.  See… I really meant all of it.

Then I added all the specific places of organization I could think of within the broader categories, leaving room for things to be added as I think of them.  So now I will tackle one small project at a time, check it off my list, and feel productive as I make progress.  I’m going to be sharing my progress on my blog as I go.  Sometimes big, sometimes small things, but if you want to follow along with me and get more organized in your life, I’d love to see what you’re doing!  Come join me for #healthyandorganized2014!

And before you think I’m awesome at organization, here are some pictures to make you think otherwise.  Also known as why would I ever share pictures like these to sit on the interwebs for anyone to see?  But this is my end of 2013 reality.  Here’s to hoping this organized 2014 thing really happens!bathroom

Are you awesome at organization?  Do you have goals to get more organized like me?  Tips and things you’ve mastered?  We’d love to hear it!  Share with us in the comments.  And please help me know I’m not the only one whose house looks like this sometimes!!

  1. Lauren – I should come over and help you organize and clean and rearrange like I used to do with Deanna when we were little. On occasion we would spend hours in her room organizing it. I’m sick and find it to fun. 🙂 Seriously, though. Let me know if I can help.

    • Laura- I’m sorry I put you to work as a kid, but rest assured, I caught your sickness and love organization! Lauren, while I love organization, I can send you a pic of our junk room that will make you feel better! Good luck on your quest and let me know if you need help!

  2. Thanks for showing us reality! My house looks like this more often than not (read: daily). I used to be super organized, but well…kids and moves put an end to that. I am aiming for a functioning household instead of organized per say this year. Like why in heck am I tripping over shoes all day??? Why is there nowhere to put backpacks…I need function.
