Orangetheory Fitness: What Makes It Special {Review}

If you’re looking for a workout that will keep your mind and body engaged, Orangetheory Fitness is the place to go! The Knoxville Moms Blog contributor team was recently treated to an Orangetheory Fitness class at the Bearden location and we left feeling accomplished, energized, and motivated!

In other words, we all had a blast and can’t wait to go back!

Orangetheory Fitness brings interval training to a new level — I think it truly lives up to the hype. Most participants burn between 500-1,000 calories thanks to its interval-based, quick-moving, high-intensity 60-minute class. Guided by our enthusiastic instructor Krystal, we were encouraged to push ourselves as we rotated between Orangetheory’s three components: the treadmill, the weight room and the rowing machines. Krystal’s exercise demonstrations and explanations made the class easy to follow.

A distinctive aspect of Orangetheory Fitness is that each participant is given a heart rate monitor to wear throughout class. Inside the studio, screens are strategically placed so that you’re able to follow your individual stats. These include your heart rate, percentage of your maximum heart rate, calories burned and “splat points” (which are earned for every minute you spend at or over 85% of your maximum heart rate). Knowing my heart rate as I exercised was great motivation to push myself more as I ran, rowed and lifted weights.

Want to know more about what makes Orangetheory Fitness so much fun? Read on for what our group members had to say:

It’s closer to a group personal training session than a group fitness class. Working out on my own I never feel like I know when to push harder. The Orangetheory instructor gave clear instructions and encouraged us to push harder. It took out all the guess work and I got a great workout!” — Beth

Loved how professional and upbeat the whole session was! I felt challenged and encouraged during the entire workout, and knew what to expect and could pace myself during each block. Great experience!” — Christie

“I loved the equipment — so high-end but easy to use. The heart rate monitor and the stats really help you know how hard you worked, too.” — Crystal

I liked the structure of the class and the variety that came with it. It’s rare to find such a strong structure that also isn’t boring. I also loved that you could go at your pace, making it tailored completely to your needs.” — Lauren

I loved the pace and the variety of exercises and modifications for different fitness levels and goals. The workout was challenging, but fun. The instructor was knowledgeable and motivating and I wanted to keep pushing myself to work harder. Orangetheory provides the perfect balance of group fitness and personal training. Great experience!” — Leah

Orange theory virgin here. It was my first time. It was very organized and informative. They answered all my questions. The workout was different but in a good way. I haven’t sweated like that in a long time. The way they have the workouts set up is a great way to change things up and it helps push yourself. I had a lot of fun and will definitely be back!” — Lyssa

“The sprints and change of pace on the treadmill was my favorite. It kept you working to the next rest and making you push further.” — Natalie

I’ve never used a rowing machine before, so it was fun getting to use different equipment I’m not used to. I liked how the Orangetheory instructor kept the energy up and gave us the motivation to keep pushing ourselves. As someone who doesn’t work out much (read: at all), it was an enjoyable experience!” — Rachel

So, there you have it; Orangetheory Fitness gets a thumbs up from all of us! There’s something truly rewarding about pushing yourself in the gym and walking away knowing you accomplished something good for your mind, body and soul.
