Besides skill development in multiple sports, there will also be a consistent focus on sportsmanship and fun. In today’s culture, kids are often pressured to concentrate on one sport. The All Sports Camp provides an opportunity to experience new sports and explore other interests. Learning from some of the Southeast’s top coaches, along with talented high school athletes, is the perfect recipe to build confidence in any young athlete.

Imaginations get their rocket fuel at Camp Invention! An exciting, week long summer adventure awaits with activities that explore connections between science, technology, engineering, and innovation while sharpening their 21st century skills. A program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Camp Invention allows children in kindergarten through 6th grade to experience real-world problem solving, creative thinking, invention, and teamwork.

Children work together to transform the terrain and ecosystem of a distant exoplanet. They take risks as budding business owners, blast rockets, air cannons, and rubber chickens, and wire a circuit to create their own Spy Gadget Alarm Box! Local, certified educators lead a week of hands-on activities that fuel children’s confidence in their natural ability to dream and create. Ages 3-13.  June 12-16.  A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away . . . there was great unrest on the planet of Tate-tooine V, as young Jedi were training to defend the region from the dark powers of Ambassador Lester Zurk.  Unite with the Alliance or choose to join the Empire as we travel to the outer edge. May the force be with us!  Swimming and traditional camp activities are included.

Ages 3-13.  June 19-23 .  “Faster than a speeding camper on the zipline. More powerful than a John Deere pulling a hay wagon.  Able to leap tall insects in a single bound — Look, up in the sky . . . It’s a crow . . . It’s a squirrel . . . It’s Superhero week!”  Join us as we celebrate the superheroes of today and yesterday.  Discover your own superhero powers as we join forces to fend off the evil villains.  Swimming and traditional camp activities are included.

Child vs. Wild

Ages 3-13.  June 26-30.  Based in part on the television show, Survivor, tribal alliances are formed and spirit fills the air as teams participate in competitions to gain points throughout the week.  Some challenges involve skill and energy while others involve thought and problem solving.  Group unity and participation are essential.  All eyes are focused on Friday’s closing tribal council where one team will be the victor!  Swimming and traditional camp activities are included.

Minion Mania (closed July 4)

Ages 3-13.  July 3-7.  Suspicions are growing and things are not as they appear.  A tire swing is missing from the playground; a half-eaten muffin is found in the camp store; strange little footprints mark the paths; and sounds of laughing chatter are coming from the woods.  What’s going on?  Yikes – a camper just spotted a yellow Twinkie with hands and feet headed to the pool.  Join us and help solve these mysteries.  Swimming and traditional camp activities are included.

Indiana Jones and the Legend of Taboo’s Lost Treasure

Ages 3-13.  July 10-14.  It’s a race against the clock as all campers unite with Tennessee Jones (Indy’s brother) in the hunt for Taboo the squirrel’s lost treasure.  Doubt hangs in the air as the suspense builds.  Was Spunky the skunk involved? What about Fred Red Fox?  Has anyone even seen Taboo this week?  Together we will search for artifacts and hopefully discover the treasure before time runs out!  Swimming and traditional camp activities are included.

Ages 3-13.  July 17-21.  Fire up the cotton candy machine and crank up the music and games because it’s time for the Tate’s Carnival 2017.  Step right up and try your hand at the ring toss, stop by the face painting stand, make a pitch at the dunking booth or maybe win a special prize at one of the game stations.  These are just a few of the many activities awaiting you at the Tate’s Carnival.  Swimming and traditional camp activities are included.

Harry Potter

Ages 3-13.  July 24-28.  Calling all young wizards!  We’re sending our imagination on vacation by spending the week honoring our good friend Harry Potter.  Meet the magical sorting hat before venturing to the land of fiction where campers of all ages will enjoy dress up days, Hogwarts crafts, Quidditch and the Tate’s Triwizard dodgeball tournament.  We’ll meet you at Platform 9 3/4 for an early departure.  Don’t forget your wand and broom!  Swimming and traditional camp activities are included.

Wild Water

Ages 3-13.  July 31-August 4.  Summer just wouldn’t be complete without our most traditional and ever so popular weekly theme – Wild Water Week!  So, add some extra sunscreen, gather the squirters, fill the water balloons and crank up the swimming pools because this week promises to be packed with wet and wild FUN.  You will feel the excitement all the way from your head to your wrinkled toes.  Swimming and traditional camp activities are included.

Adventures in Robotics

Entering grades 2nd-3rd   June 5-9

Entering grades 4th-5th   June 12-16

Join Mrs. Anderson, Tate’s Technology Teacher, for an adventure you’ll never forget – Robotics!

In individual and team environments, campers will follow the Design Process to build and program robots of different shapes and sizes.  So what is the Design Process?  It’s the process Engineers use all the time that includes a combination of defining a problem, researching information, brainstorming ideas, developing solutions, presenting your design and then improving your design!  Campers will work toward developing problem-solving skills that involve math, engineering, physics and logic as they work toward their goals.  Participants will spend each day in the technology camp until 2:00 p.m.  The remainder of the camp day will include swimming and other camp activities.

Counselor-In-Training Program

For rising 9th-10th graders.  Session 1: June 5-23; Session 2: June 26-July 14; Session 3: July 17-August 4.  This leadership training program incorporates real life work experience into a fun and energetic camp environment by combining hands-on opportunities, team building, and problem solving into life skills that participants will use forever.

Introducing Week T minus 1: Blastoff to Adventure!

June 25-30 at Mars Hill University

Appalachian Institute for Creative Learning offers exciting and challenging programs for talented and gifted students. Through outreach and scholarships, we foster a racially and economically diverse community. At AICL, we see everyone as both a learner and a teacher. We encourage social and intellectual interactions that will enable our students to fulfill their personal, professional, and academic potential. Because we build curricula based on the idea that learning is fun and should be ongoing, we prepare our students to engage our complex world with insight, empathy, and confidence.

Week T-1 is our newest program in our Summer Enrichment Camp Programs.  It is an exciting opportunity for campers entering Grades 6-12 to experience hands on science labs, intensive art classes, and Socratic discussions.  It is the next step in AICL’s commitment to the belief that learning should be fun and ongoing.  Week T-1 does not focus on one subject but offers courses that are active, hands on, and that allow students to explore their interests outside of school.  The only requirement is imagination and a love of learning.  Students should be prepared to be on their toes throughout the day, expanding their academic horizons as well as embracing new artistic ideas.  We will also have two daily sessions of low impact exercise such as swimming, Frisbee, kickball – just to name a few – as well as a full slate of after dinner clubs and activities.  Go to our website and check out our awesome classes and we will see you in June!

$750 for Residential Campers for Week T-1, from Sunday afternoon to Friday afternoon.
