Onsight Rock Gym’s Summer Camps are creatively designed to introduce the sport of rock climbing to your children by engaging their minds and exhausting their muscles. Day by day, they will grow and develop as individuals, set goals, build self confidence, and cultivate a self-driven love for staying physically active and healthy. By instilling the qualities of bravery, determination, and integrity, your children will learn valuable lessons on and off the walls to help them overcome any obstacles they might face. They will leave with stories from a summer camp they can’t stop talking about and experiences they will never forget.

This year, we are excited to introduce our Tot Camp! With your youngster in mind, we developed a fun-filled program designed to teach some basic fundamentals of climbing while instilling a long-lasting love of the sport and encouraging imagination and inspiration. This enriching camp, through games and a variety of fun activities, will help each climber gain confidence, agility, coordination, and problem solving skills that they will carry with them far beyond their time here at Onsight.

Welcome to Tate’s Day Camp – home of the fun professionals. Our 52 acre campus is located on N. Cedar Bluff Road in West Knoxville.  All camps run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  (Early care from 7:30 a.m. and extended care until 6:00 p.m are included).  Tate’s is accredited by the American Camp Association and provides weekly themes that include traditional camp activities like swimming, arts & crafts, archery, zipline, climbing tower, hillside slip’n slide, and more.

Week 1 May 29-June 1 (4 Day week)

Tropical Beach Bash

Grab the lemonade, put on your sunglasses and don’t forget your swim suits as we launch into summer with Tate’s Tropical Beach Bash. Enjoy a beach party at one of our three refreshing swimming pools, whiz down the slip n’ slide and participate in daily beach games. Nothing says summer like heading to the beach so jump on your surfboard and join the fun.

Week 2 June 4-8

Star Wars

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away . . . there was great unrest on the planet of Tate-tooine V, as young Jedi were training to defend the region from the dark powers of Ambassador Lester Zurk. Unite with the Alliance or choose to join the Empire as we travel to the outer edge. May the force be with us!

Week 3 June 11-15

Animal Planet

Pack your bags – the expedition is about to begin. With our trusty compass, map, and binoculars, we’re headed out to explore the vast Tate’s wilderness. Our journey will include a glimpse into wildlife, reptiles, and our ever changing environment.

Week 4 June 18-22

Mission Impossible

Suspicion lurks around every corner as mystery and intrigue creep into the camp. We’re calling all secret agents to join the Tate’s Day Camp Bureau of Investigation. Together we will search for clues, process the evidence, and analyze our findings. Should you choose to accept this mission, then your top-secret clearance will be “alpha one.” Thank you in advance for your service. This webpage will self-destruct in 30 seconds.

Week 5 June 25-29

Child vs. Wild

Based in part on the television show, Survivor, tribal alliances are formed and spirit fills the air as teams participate in competitions to gain points throughout the week. Some challenges involve skill and energy while others involve thought and problem solving. Group unity and participation are essential. All eyes are focused on Friday’s closing tribal council where one team will be the victor!

Week 6 July 2-6 (4 Day week.  Closed July 4th.)

Christmas in July

Ho Ho Ho! Hang the stockings, decorate the tree, and gather around the pond for some old fashioned Christmas Carols as we celebrate Christmas in July. Keep your eyes open for that greedy old Grinch of Tatesville who hangs in the shadows trying to spoil the fun. He won’t steal our Christmas! We’ll have ornament making, apple cider, caroling and maybe even a visit from the jolly old man from the North Pole. “Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!”

Week 7 July 9-13

Tate’s Got Talent

Auditions are about to begin, and the search will be open to acts of all talents. We’re looking for a variety of unique performers including singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, ventriloquists and all hopeful stars. By the end of the week, we’ll be rolling out the red carpet for our finalists that will be invited to perform at Friday’s Closing Program. Not interested in performing center stage? Then join the fan club of your favorite contestant, and cast your vote for the next Tate’s sensation.

Design Matters! Camp, July 15-21, is an immersive summer experience for curious and creative high school students who believe design transforms the world.  The camp is directed by the College of Architecture and Design at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

For ten years, Design Matters! Camp has introduced students to architecture, interior architecture and design, exposed students to design education at a prominent university and helped students understand the multitude of professions that rely on designers.  It’s a camp for problem-solving, out-of-the-box thinkers, and no previous design experience is required.

During the week, students spend each day engaging in lectures, designing in studio, working with advanced technology, learning from college professors and students, visiting architectural sites and interacting in teambuilding and campus activities, including painting the famous UT Rock.  DM!C also gives students a glimpse of college life and the culture of collaboration in UT’s design college.

This year, campers get one additional day at no additional charge.  Students can stay overnight or sign up for day camp, and camp scholarships are available.

AICL Summer CampAICL

Location: Mars Hill University Asheville, NC

Phone: 800-951-7442

Email: [email protected]

Appalachian Institute for Creative Learning offers exciting and challenging programs for talented and gifted students. Through outreach and scholarships, we foster a racially and economically diverse community. At AICL, we see everyone as both a learner and a teacher. We encourage social and intellectual interactions that will enable our students to fulfill their personal, professional, and academic potential. Because we build curricula based on the idea that learning is fun and should be ongoing, we prepare our students to engage our complex world with insight, empathy, and confidence.

July 1- July 6 at Mars Hill University

Week T Minus 1: Blastoff to Adventure!

Week T Minus 1 offers an exciting opportunity for campers entering grades 6-8 to experience hands on science labs, intensive art classes, and Socratic discussions.  It is the next step in AICL’s commitment to the belief that learning should be fun and ongoing.  Week T Minus 1 does not focus on one subject, but offers courses that are active and allow students to explore their interests outside of school.  The only requirement is imagination and a love of learning.  Students should be prepared to be on their toes throughout the day, expanding their academic horizons as well as embracing new artistic ideas.  We will also have two daily sessions of low impact exercise such as swimming, Frisbee, kickball – just to name a few – as well as a full slate of after dinner clubs and activities. During evening dorm time, campers hang out with friends, play games, or watch movies, then go to sleep. Campers are supervised at all times, and counselors live on the same halls as their groups.

Tuition is $750 for residential campers; camp runs from Sunday afternoon to Friday afternoon.

Week Zero

July 8 – July 14 at Mars Hill University

Week Zero is an intensive academic program for students entering grades 9-12, with AICL’s traditional focus on hands-on projects and fun lessons.  As always, we encourage students to explore areas outside their usual academic strengths if they wish, but with the understanding that the classes in this program are a bit more demanding. Campers at Week Zero will have some loosely structured time in the evenings to explore the concepts and skills they learn in class and campers will take a more active part in the planning and execution of camp activities. After dinner, there are special events like a talent show, Zombie Hunt, a disco, or group games. During evening dorm time, campers hang out with friends, play games, or watch movies, then go to sleep. Campers are supervised at all times and counselors live on the same halls as their groups.

Tuition is $810 for residential campers; camp runs from Sunday afternoon to Saturday morning.
