Design Inspiration: Preserving Memories on the Wall

0

As Mamas we are the memory keepers and curators of lots of precious artwork and images.

Did you know you can make a beautiful display of these memories on your wall that look amazing?It’s time to dig out the pile of art and images off the phone. If you are worried about fitting a certain color scheme, you can make canvases with a limited palette in the color range of your choice with your child. The choices are endless and generally children’s art looks like high end contemporary art!

A great rule of thumb on collections in photographs or art is unification.

Try to work with the same type of frame or weight of canvas. If you are working with family photos, a great way to make a gallery wall is to stick to all black and white or color. For any collection, I recommend laying everything out on the floor to make a layout. Tracing the item on brown paper and then placing it on the wall is also a great way to work with a layout. Once you have the collection where you want it, you can hang the piece directly over the brown paper and tear it off from underneath. Below, are some great examples of children’s art and gallery walls.

This gallery wall of children’s art has a high end look. The color palette and technique is similar in style. The simple white frames pull them together. A great place to find simple frames is ikea.com. The Ribba frame is a great choice. {Image via domainhome.com}

An entrance with art makes it a place to sit and stay. This gallery wall has an eclectic look, but appears unified with the weight of the canvas and the frames being similar. Rich tones also link the grouping together. I have had great experiences printing canvas at Canvas on Demand. They also have some great thicker edge canvas. A wider edge on a canvas has a nice finished look. {Image via Southern Living.}

This eat in kitchen space has a beautiful collection of family images. The white frames, mat and similar tonal values unify the group. It also plays on the strong use of black and white in the overall design of the space with a very clean feel. {Image via eclecticcharleston.com.}

It’s easy to have beautiful, budget friendly art for the home using your children’s art or photographs. Just remember to the key element is to group them with a similarity to achieve a finished look. Let’s see what you can create!
