If you haven’t already checked out Babalu Tapas & Tacos, make sure you do! In fact, plan your next fun night out/date night/friends’ night out/moms’ night out at Babalu. You won’t regret it!

Located in the heart of downtown Knoxville, at 412 S. Gay Street, Babulu Tapas & Tacos is housed in a truly hip spot. As you walk in you’ll notice the restaurant’s high ceilings, welcoming bar, and my favorite: exposed brick! And the fun doesn’t stop with the ambiance – the FOOD is equally fun and delicious.

Babalu Tapas & Tacos was the setting for a recent KMB contributor dinner and we could not have enjoyed our night out any more.

Our group was seated in a private, spacious backroom of the restaurant where we were immediately offered drinks and appetizers. A table favorite was the Guacamole Made Tableside, served with house chips. It was truly fun to watch our guacamole being made in front of us – you could see and smell the freshness of the ingredients!

Babalu’s Tapas & Tacos’ food and cocktails menu is extensive and varied. One of the restaurant’s slogans is “food worth sharing,” and I could not agree more. So much enjoyment comes from sharing a delicious meal with friends — Babalu helped make our night a memorable one.

At Babulu, you’ll find mouth-watering appetizers, tapas (small plates), tacos, sandwiches, desserts and so much more! In addition to the guacamole and chips, we enjoyed several tapas and sides like the Charred Shishito Peppers, Braised Beef Short Ribs, Grilled Broccolini with Goat Cheese, and table favorite Mexican Street Corn! We were also treated to some of the yummier desserts I’ve had in a long time, like the Spicy Mexican Fudge, the Dulce de Leche Cheesecake Bites and the Apple Cinnamon Empanadas!

Everything was truly delicious!

While Babalu Tapas & Tacos is a great location for an intimate dinner with friends, it’s also the perfect backdrop for a party. The backroom in which we were seated is available Sunday through Thursday, at any time of day. On Fridays and Saturdays Babalu is able to host events through the lunch hour (until 4pm) and they are currently waiving all room rental and service fees.

If you’re interested in catering options, Babalu offers that as well, with a pre-set menu served buffet-style. They pride themselves on creating customizable plan for your event.

So the next time you’re in the mood for a delicious and fun meal, worth sharing with your friends, visit Babalu Tapas & Tacos – you won’t be disappointed!

In March 2011 my life changed in the most dramatic and wonderful way possible: I became a mom to my vivacious, inquisitive, sweet, fun-loving, exuberant little man. A week after my son’s birth, my husband received a job offer we could not refuse from the University of Tennessee. And so, in July 2011, we said goodbye to the life we’d created in the coastal paradise of Santa Barbara, California, and began carving out a new bit of paradise for ourselves in Knoxville. In March 2013, just over two years after the birth of our son, we welcomed our beautiful and equally amazing daughter. Together with my loving and supportive husband, my children have taught me to slow down and enjoy the moments life gives us. It is with them and thanks to them, that I feel truly happy and at peace.
