Thanksgiving is one of my top three favorite holidays next to Halloween and Christmas. I love getting together with family and enjoying a huge dinner of all the best foods. We have a pretty large immediate family and an even larger extended family. This year we are going to have close to 30 family members at Thanksgiving Dinner. It’s a given that we will have both turkey and ham, so the main stressor for me is what sides to make. As a mother of three kids, I have to plan ahead – there is no other option. Planning helps save money and time and it definitely relieves the stress of preparing for a holiday meal. I’m sure many mothers understand and know that when you have little ones around, it’s hard to do things last minute and even harder when those things have to do with preparing food.
This year I’m planning on bringing deviled eggs and au gratin potatoes for sides (along with two desserts and the turkey). One of the biggest tips I can give to anyone prepping for the big day is to pick your recipes, look at them, and plan when you will make them. I am preparing my potatoes the day before Thanksgiving and the deviled eggs while the turkey cooks in the oven. Spreading the recipes out over two days helps to keep me from getting overwhelmed – plus with a teething 8 month old who is Mommy-clingy, I cannot spend an entire day in my kitchen making food.
To help other moms achieve a less stressful Thanksgiving, I put together a roundup of 47 different side dish recipes from some wonderful bloggers to share with y’all today. There is a little bit of everything – mashed potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole, dinner rolls, and more!
