Farragut Book Fest for Children April 11th!

Get lost in a good book! Presented by the Farragut Arts Council and the Knox County Library Farragut Branch, the eighth annual Farragut Book Fest for Children will be held Saturday, April 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Founders Park at Campbell Station, located next to the Farragut Branch Library on Campbell Station Road. Farragut Shopper-News is the event media sponsor.

This educational and entertaining event will offer an array of activities throughout the day, from storytelling to book signings to music. The first 400 children will receive a free coloring book, pencil and crayons. Storytellers will include Laurie Fisher, Linda Hall, Lynn Hinkernell and Hardin Valley Academy theater students. The following local authors will be on hand to meet participants while selling and signing their books: David Boyce, Leigh Carrasco, Jean Leigh Claudette, David and Mary Faith Enyart, Lorraine Loria and Donna Martin.

Additional happenings will include art activities, face painting, cookie decorating and the Ruff Reading Program. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favorite storybook character; a character parade throughout the park will be held at 11:45 a.m. Magician Michael Messing will be the featured entertainer; Farragut High School students will also lead sing-alongs of popular kids’ songs. Free hot dogs, popcorn and lemonade will be available beginning at 11 a.m. while supplies last.

In conjunction with this event, the Friends of the Knox County Library will host a used book sale at the Farragut Branch on Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A detailed schedule of all Book Fest for Children activities as well as a park map can be found at www.townoffarragut.org/bookfest.

The Farragut Book Fest for Children is free and open to the public. Special thanks to Lenoir City Utilities Board and Elm Hill Meats for donations and to the Akima Club of Knoxville for their volunteers. Limited parking will be available at Founders Park at Campbell Station; additional parking will be available at Farragut Assembly of God, located across the street from the park on Campbell Station Road.
